| SUMMARY |
The project’s site is within a former quarry on the outskirts of the city centre. It is directly accessible from the road used by hordes of summer tourists who make their way to Sainte-Maxime and the city’s more famous cousin, Saint-Tropez. The building’s functional program is arranged in a large circular form, surrounding an oasis of foliage and water. The large volumes of the cinemas and performance hall hover above, providing shaded areas within the oasis. A glazed circulation route of varying heights follows the gradient of the site within the building. From these elevated positions visitors can simultaneously view both the oasis and the edge of the quarry as they move from the cafeteria to the cinemas or from the library to the performance hall. |
